Porter was the fuel of the Industrial Revolution. It takes its name from the market porters of the 18th Century, who worked through the nights to ensure fresh food was available in the morning. These hard working chaps were particularly fond of the style, drinking it after (or before) a shift to help refuel and reinvigorate. So good was this style that it was the first English beer to be commercially bottled and traded, and outsold all other styles in Industrial England.
 
Showing a penchant for tradition, the Meantime brewery recreated a 1750 English Porter recipe, using seven different malts to create complex aromas and depth of flavour. This beer shows all the hallmarks of a great porter - a slight, but not overpowering roastiness, sweet caramel and chocolate flavours and a dry, lipsmacking finish. Like the Meantime IPA, the London Porter is part of the IBCs prestigious "Worlds 50 Best Beers" list.
 
What we say....
The nose of this beauty is lightly roasted malt. The caramel is very evident on the tongue, but is followed by a quite astringent finish through the use of malts. The also produces strong evidence of the use of Fuggle hops. Enjoy this gorgeous beer infront of a fire.
